Why We Use a Title Attribute in HTML

One of the more important areas of a website or web page in terms of internet marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) is the title tag. The title tag is the first bit of actual web content (text) that the search engine bots, spiders and crawlers (indexing programs) look at in determining what a web page is all about. Over and over again, the author observes title tags that are not written properly and essentially wasted. A proper title tag should include the use of a keyword phrase and / or a couple of keywords and possibly a business location such as the town or city. The title tag or lack of, is your first red flag in deciphering a fraudulent SEO business and there are plenty of them out there. Let’s look at some title tag examples.

HTML Title Tag Examples

The first example, and a very poor example, is a title tag that simply states "home.” Is that what your website or web page is about … “home”? This is an example of a complete waste of highly fertile web content space! The title tag on your home or index page is your most important internet marketing web content or text!

The second example would be something like, "Welcome to SmileyGatorConsulting." The word "welcome" is NOT a keyword that anyone searches for and neither is the word "to." Using these words in ones title tag is a complete waste of highly fertile web content space. SmileyGatorConsulting.com is the actual website and no one will be searching for that website name unless they are already aware of that particular business or website name. A much better title tag for this particular website and business would be: "Internet Marketing and Website Content copywriters of Waycross, Georgia." By using this sentence, one is actually utilizing three strong keywords ...

(1) "Internet Marketing" ...

(2) "Website Content" …

(3) "Copywriters" and, identifying the business as being located in "Waycross, Georgia". A local identity – “Waycross, Georgia” has been established for search engine marketing purposes. Correctly using “Waycross, Georgia” within the title tag as well as in other key places within the web page content will cause this website to show up in local searches for Waycross, Georgia. This is exactly what a local business wants.

Local SEO Title Tags

For a local business, do your keyword research and find a strong keyword or keyword phrase and utilize it with your location. Example: "Female Physique Coach Vicki Dixon of Dublin, Ohio."

For keyword density purposes, you may want to use several keywords and a location in your title tag that can be repeated on your index or home page in the form of H1, H2 or H3 tags. "Internet Marketing and Website Content Copywriters" would be a good example of a title tag that could also be used to head several paragraphs thus increasing keyword density on the web page. The title tag of EACH web page is very precious SEO Internet Marketing ground. Don’t waste it.
